Kristen is annoying and completely out of line with her stalker flirtations with James. I recollect it'south meant to be funny but afterward several characters in the volume tell her to dorsum off, including James, information technology'due south only gone too far and no longer quirky cute. Had it resolved the first day at the pool when James was clearly uncomfortable and information technology was becoming apropos, then it could be laughed off. I call back it was just taken also far.
Matt isn't the character y'all dear to hate. Yous only hate him. Who allows a "buddy" a laissez passer after drugging their friend, who's a KNOWN recovering addict!?!?!? I felt this was dismissed in extremely poor taste (and I am not even associated with anyone in my life who's a recovering addict, it was simply a common sense feeling). That dismissal has turned me off from the residuum of the books.

Another outstanding book by the delectable Ivy! I admittedly love the Hunted serial, and while this is a side story to James and Penny's epic tale, we larn so much more about Rob and James'southward family dynamics, the human relationship betwixt the ii, and simply how much they accept been through together. I absolutely dearest the Hunted series, and while this is a side story to James and Penny'due south ballsy tale, we learn and so much more nigh Rob and James'due south family dynamics, the human relationship between the two, and just how much they have been through together. In the past, it had been pretty rough. As much as James has protected Rob, Rob has also been there for James in some pretty major means himself. They both procedure these aspects of their human relationship differently and some unspoken feelings are unleashed. But don't worry ladies, they still take brotherly love. It was very enlightening to read and acquire more near them, and I sense some possible foreshadowing as to how James may react and spiral to sure time to come events.... Now, permit's talk about ROB!

Rob is a animate being unlike whatsoever hero I've met notwithstanding. He'due south carefree, up-forepart, and fairly crude to be honest. He has always had a thing for James's fiance, Penny -- specifically how hot she is -- though, you lot know he would never act on anything he jokes about apropos her because he would never cross that line or hurt his brother. It doesn't stop him from shamelessly flirting and making comments to embarrass her. He is, though, a chip jealous of the blazon of relationship his brother and Penny share. When will he find that? How?

During a trip abroad, for James'due south available party, he happens upon a daughter he'south had his eyes on for a long time from way back home. What are the odds? He has to decide whether to pursue her here or miss another chance, a chance he already hadn't taken back home before he lost track of her. Simply she has some real issues of her own going on that makes this trip less than pleasant. How will this pan out? Can Rob actually calm downwards his bravado and learn how to develop a relationship? How tin she possibly trust him anyhow? It gets interesting!

This volume was withal another of Ivy's that I could not put downwardly. She really knows how to reel you in and agree you to it correct to the end. I had to know how everything would pan out, and what some of the other characters (their friends) would say or do. I liked the time overlap with Eruption, with the phone calls to Penny. I really enjoyed getting to know Rob much more than intimately and how he feels about his life and about things that need to modify. This book was but plenty to keep the burn down stoked and ready for Ivy'due south adjacent volume Devotion!

I would like to say 3rd Chances centres effectually 1 of my favourite characters, Rob, merely anyone who has picked upwards any of Ivy's books knows information technology's pretty much impossible to have a favourite. Her characters are so alive and vibrant that it becomes impossible to simply choice ane, merely at that place is a special identify in my middle for the free spirited, prankster with a centre of aureate, and seeing him observe Daphne was truly amazing. I love how the two of them fit. They accept difficulties, couldn't exist more different, and nonetheless with endeavour they come together amazingly. Whilst Rob frequently seems costless, in this volume nosotros get a glimpse into the things he hides beneath his confidence, and discover parts of him we didn't know existed from the times we encounter him in the other books. Daphne, however, has a trouble past herself, and the more she uncovers virtually Rob, the more those red flag in her mind brainstorm to spring. Sometimes the merely things getting in the style of happiness, is yourself.

ABOUT THE Series:

This is book two of three in the Men of Manhattan series of related standalones. Fans of The Hunted series will particularly love this series, which is a spinoff of sorts. It includes:
ane. Metropolis of Sin (Mason Caldwell and Bridget Cowan'southward story)
2. Third Chances (Rob Hunter and Daphne Hughes's story)
3. Missing Pieces (Tyler Stevens and Hailey Shaw's story)

This serial intersects with The Hunted serial. While these books and each series tin can be enjoyed on their own, each book is even more enjoyable when read collectively because petty glimpses of the characters from one book to another add together to the depth of their individual stories. Approximating the chronological lodge, the ii series combined should exist read every bit follows (according to the author).
1. Temptation (James Hunter and Penny Taylor's story, office 1)
2. Addicted (James Hunter and Penny Taylor's story, part 2)
3. City of Sin (Mason Caldwell and Bridget Cowen's story)
iv. Eruption (James Hunter and Penny Taylor's story, office 3)
v. Tertiary Chances (Rob Hunter and Daphne Hughes's story)
vi. Devotion (James Hunter and Penny Taylor's story, part 4)
7. Missing Pieces (Tyler Stevens and Hailey Shaw's story)

IN THIS Volume:

For those that have read Eruption in The Hunted series, this book gives a look at the available party that James was kidnapped and taken to. Readers finally go to learn more than about James and Rob'due south relationship as well. Unlike The Hunted series, the male gets his POV, so the reader gets to know Rob's inner thoughts. Finally, the epilogue cuts to the following Friday, so be forewarned if you have non yet read Devotion that it does give abroad a few parts. This volume adds a lot to The Hunted series, even though information technology does work perfectly as a standalone.

This story opens the weekend before James and Penny's wedding, during his available political party at the Bluish Parrot in Costa rica. The Blue Parrot is a secret and sectional resort tucked away in the jungle. The Resort encourages some kinky beliefs amongst its patrons with their card and bracelet system.

Daphne Hughes, twenty-three, is affectionately chosen Mama Bear by her friends. She likes to be organized. She likes to be in control. She is protective and nurturing. And she is afraid of taking risks. She left her family unit and home in Delaware backside afterwards graduation to go to New York and begin her career as a high school math teacher; her friends all tease her about her students having crushes on their hot instructor. Daphne is focused on her career now, but as her friends are all coupling upwards around her, she is get-go to wonder if she might be ready for change. Her last year at the University of New Castle was tough, but fortunately she had Kristen and Alina to lean on. Even if Kristen was a piddling also obsessed with Professor Hunter, she had been a good friend, pushing Daphne out of her comfort zone. She and Alina had been best friends dating back to elementary schoolhouse, and she understood the hurting and loss, if not the guilt. As she heads off to Republic of costa rica with Alina, Kristen, and Layla for a one week bachelorette getaway in accolade of Alina upcoming wedding, Daphne begins to reverberate on where she is in her life.

Robert Hunter, xx-seven, is the carefree and adventurous Hunter blood brother. Unlike his broody brother James, Rob is mostly happy and fun loving. He is flirty and used to getting what he wants from women handed to him on a silver platter. He went to Harvard as was expected of a Hunter, just he has not worked since. He spends his time travelling on whims, going where the current of air blows him. He is waiting for inspiration to hitting him and give him a purpose in life. He had taken over James'due south condo near the University of New Castle back when James and Penny moved to New York 2 and a half years ago. When he isn't travelling, he enjoys living amongst the beautiful coeds on campus. But the one night stands are getting slow. If he is honest with himself he is a piddling jealous of James. Rob loves Penny like a sister, but seeing how happy she and James are together makes him recognize that he wants to exist in love with someone, too. Their beloved is a fiddling inspiring, and seeing James happy means the world to Rob. James had sacrificed his own happiness to protect Rob from their parents' controlling ways while growing upward, and even if it sometimes made Rob experience second best, Rob would always accept James's dorsum in render. Rob stuck with James through his addictions, only since he began teaching and found Penny, James has been clean. Penny makes James whole.

Rob wonders if he will always find what he is looking for. At that place had been a girl back in Delaware that captured his attention a while back. He had watched her study on the lawn each mean solar day, and he really wanted to know her. This girl had been different than the others. He sensed she needed some space and planned to arroyo her at the end of the semester, but she left earlier he got the chance. A twelvemonth later and he is getting bored with his life. So when that same girl shows upwardly at the Blue Parrot Resort, Rob isn't going to allow his second chance go to waste. She seems a lilliputian skittish, merely he has her attention thanks to the bracelets on her wrist. She needs help removing them, and he has all the cards.

Rob and Daphne's story is a whirlwind romance – most of the story takes place over the class of but 2 days. But in reality their allure for one some other had been percolating for almost ii years. The absenteeism had done nothing to change the natural pull they shared, and when they finally meet one another they feel the connectedness. But Rob has never been in a relationship before, and doing things the slow way is a foreign concept to him. Daphne values patience and getting to know someone before getting more than intimate. And unlike Rob, she is agape of trying new things. She likes things done just then. Rob inspires her to desire to live her life more freely, but putting that idea into activeness is more than difficult than she would similar. She is bogged downwardly by regrets about her past that forbid her from fully enjoying the present. Rob feels content around Daphne, a feeling that is new to him. And though he doesn't understand what love is, he wants to give things a endeavour and find out. Despite how happy they experience when they are together, fright threatens to arrive the manner. The couple eventually earns a happy for at present ending.

Fans of The Hunted serial will recognize Tyler Stevens, Penny's expert friend from school. He comes up in the epilogue here as this serial segues into Tyler'southward HEA. He hasn't always been painted every bit the good guy, but it is more often than not just that he is human being and makes some dumb mistakes (and judging his actions while he is under the influence is probably non entirely off-white). Subsequently years of not getting over Penny, his story has become very sympathetic. His story follows in Missing Pieces, book iii of this serial..

Fans of the Empire High series, which is Matt'south story, volition finally get to run across a piddling more than of Matt here. Thus far in both the Men of Manhattan series and The Hunted series, there has been picayune from Matt. This book doesn't exactly paint him in the best of light. He does a few very mean things, and at that place is a hint of loneliness. This may ruin the story for some, but those that take read Empire High and are enlightened of the past wild behavior and indulgences of James and his friends growing up together may empathise where Matt is coming from even if they don't forgive him. And that explains why the friends get by information technology with and so little fanfare. And guys just react to things differently than women, so female person readers should keep that in mind, too. Equally awful as it is, at this point in the Empire High series (book three), it is mayhap serving a purpose. Matt is unhappy because his HEA was stolen from him. His love story is tragic. Those that haven't read Empire High don't have the backstory and thus cannot fathom Matt's actions. I have my own ideas about what Empire High Matchmaker holds in store (which is not notwithstanding released as of this writing), but this book sort of puts my theory into question (though it does not rule information technology out). Fans volition know that book three of that series had a devastating ending that really left things unsettled and the direction of the series unclear.

Rob and Daphne'south story is mostly light and fun – watching Daphne loosen upward when with Rob is sugariness, and seeing him settle down effectually her is very satisfying. They make a series of deals revolving around the game of bracelets and cards which keeps things from getting too serious. They both take some issues to deal with, yet, before they are prepare to move forward and begin a relationship. At that indicate the story is a little more serious. Rob, even so, is such a character that his story cannot possibly take a serious turn for long. Rob may exist a bit lost, but he has been a protective footling blood brother. Information technology is great to see him notice dear, too.

Rob and Daphne's opposites attract romance pairs fun-loving Rob with Mama Carry Daphne. Together, they find a happy middle. This story is well-written. The plot is somewhat circuitous; information technology weaves together many characters from other stories past the author. Most significantly, this story offers a lot to fans of The Hunted – and it is thus highly recommended. The story is written in starting time person. The POV alternates between Rob and Daphne. I rate this book four stars – or 4.five stars for fans of The Hunted series and other related books past the author.

Third Chances is role of The Hunted Serial but focuses on secondary characters within the series. It's Rob's story (Professor James Hunter's brother) and it'south fabulous! He'due south always been a graphic symbol that I've been more curious about and I was pretty giddy to find out this book is about him. The majority of the story takes place in Republic of costa rica where the men accept James for his bachelor party. Rob loves gamble and never settles in one place. He's a player and enjoys every moment of life despite a dark past. Daphne is the girl he used to secretly watch back in Delaware when she was in college. He always wanted to talk to her but never did. When she shows up for a bachelorette party (Alina from Going For Aureate!) at the aforementioned resort in Costa rica, he finally has the chance to make his move with her. Daphne has ever been the responsible one and never lets go. She is structured and thrives on routine and won't let any man get close to her for fright of losing him. When Rob and Daphne finally officially run across, the sparks wing. Theirs is more than of a slow burn romance since Daphne doesn't desire to go involved with him. What I love about these characters is that they bring out the best in each other. Their story is funny, super sexy and I was able to really connect to them. At the very heart of this story is the thought of letting go of your past and finding what your middle truly desires.

Ivy Smoak does a swell task of developing her characters and fans of her other books will bask all of the recurring characters who are nowadays in this story. Because of this, it's a good idea to read the other books in The Hunted serial prior to reading Third Chances. Information technology's not 100% necessary only in society to sympathise more about Rob and his relationship with James and his family, information technology certainly is helpful.

This might be my favorite Ivy Smoak book yet! I am reading/re-reading most of her books in chronological order in preparation for Empire High Matchmaker.

This might be my favorite Ivy Smoak book yet! I am reading/re-reading most of her books in chronological order in training for Empire High Matchmaker.

This book has a lot of characters from other serial so I don't recommend trying to read it as a stand-alone book. Yous can detect Ivy'south chronological gild list here: https://www.ivysmoak.com/chronologica...

Back in high schoolhouse (in the early on Empire High books) Rob was Matt'due south best friend and he became good friends with Brooklyn. Rob is likewise James' younger brother and so nosotros run into him throughout The Hunted: The Consummate Serial #one-4 too. Rob is the funny guy. The prankster with no verbal filter. He's always flirting and existence inappropriate with Brooklyn and Penny. He travels a lot and he doesn't have (or need) a task then he hasn't put down whatever roots. He doesn't seem to take life too seriously... but things aren't always what they seem.

Daphne is a loftier schoolhouse math teacher. She is the "mama bear" of her friend grouping - the serious and responsible one. She is at the Blue Parrot Resort for her friend Alina's bachelorette political party.

Rob and Daphne balance each other out. His is all about sexual innuendos and having fun and she is reserved and reliable. But they have more than in mutual than either of them realize.

Series crossovers: The timeline of this volume is the same equally Eruption from The Hunted series. We get to encounter what James is up to on his bachelor weekend while Penny is dealing with all of the drama back in New York. Information technology is prissy to hear from James how he feels about Penny in his conversations with his friends, instead of merely seeing things from Penny's perspective. We also hear a trivial about Mason and Bee. The highlight for me was seeing more of Matt though (since I'm counting down the days for the release of his next book). My heart broke a little during the poolside game of "Never Have I Ever" merely I won't spoil it for you. Other than that, Matt just seemed to be stirring up trouble for his friends.

Alina and her friend Kristen are from Going for Gold and there are lots of references to events in that volume. Layla from Layla's Forecast is too function of the bridal party. The guys from these books (Bryce, Tim, and Ethan) besides brand cameos.

Blue Parrot Resort is a short story that comes before Third Chances and gives an intro to the kinds of things that tin happen at the resort.

Rob was ane of my favorites supporting characters in the Empire Loftier series and The Hunted series and I loved his book! We go to see more than of him and Daphne in Penny and James' 4th volume: Devotion.

My Hoopla badge is for audiobooks I listened to for free thanks to my local library.

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. I'd ideally like to give this volume 3.3 stars, which shocks me for an Ivy Smoak volume. I've read the all of the hunted serial, so the city of sin and take loved all of them. I couldn't put urban center of sin downward when I started it….simply, this one was a different story. In short, I almost DNF'd information technology. The beginning 30-50 pages were SO Hard to get through. Daphne was abrasive. Kristen SUCKS…similar what kind of psychopath friend is she??? It was funny to see her once more after the New Castle stalking situation but I'd ideally like to requite this volume 3.3 stars, which shocks me for an Ivy Smoak book. I've read the all of the hunted series, and then the city of sin and have loved all of them. I couldn't put city of sin down when I started it….but, this 1 was a dissimilar story. In brusque, I almost DNF'd it. The first 30-50 pages were And so Difficult to become through. Daphne was annoying. Kristen SUCKS…like what kind of psychopath friend is she??? It was funny to encounter her again afterwards the New Castle stalking situation but that plot line was so overused and information technology needed to stop subsequently the outset fourth dimension it was mentioned, it was abrasive and frankly super creepy. I understand why Daphne is the way she is after the loss of her blood brother, just did we take to make up then uptight and anal? I accept loved her in all the other books then I was shocked to be and then easily bellyaching by her. I told myself I would stop this book and it started getting better one time Rob was introduced, he's a favorite character of mine. It was kind of weird to exist reading this book subsequently reading the entire hunted series because we have heard a lot of this earlier, and we obviously know that Daph and Rob get married and have kids. Overall, once it got going I enjoyed the sexual tension betwixt the two and Daph caring for James. The back and along, was overplayed likewise. If at that place was 1 less fourth dimension of her running abroad and him not chasing after her, I would of been fine. As well to note, I thought information technology was so weird for the boyfriends to show up and just be like yeah we're kicking you lot out of the room? Evidently at the finish we know why, but generally I feel like they're shitty friends. I'thousand glad nosotros don't really hear most them in the later Hunted books. For all the build upwards, and somewhat character evolution the ending was so rushed. They hadn't fifty-fifty gotten back together and at that place was only twenty pages left? The catastrophe was besides pretty predictable, obviously once they were dorsum in the wood we knew they were going to the waterfall to kiss and make upwardly. I did relish the surprise of Rob wanting to exit and travel somewhere (i vaguely call back this being mentioned in an earlier hunted book). Overall, I probably wouldn't recommend this book unless yous're looking for a quick sex buildup read. If you haven't read whatever of the other books, I definitely wouldn't recommend. I'g interested to encounter how I feel about Matt's stand alone books, considering he was kind of annoying and drugged James??? I still dearest Ivy, only this one wasn't it. ...more than

Having read all Ivy'southward Hunted and Light in the Darkness Series, James' little brother, Rob was one of my favourite characters (second merely to James of grade). He'southward funny, sexy and has that wonderful cheekiness to him that makes him absolutely adorable.

I'm and then glad he got his standalone story and I really enjoyed learning more than nearly Daphne. She'south sweet, caring and homely... which is exactly what Rob needs to aid him detect his forever.

Can't say I'd like to say at the Blue Parrot Resort... all sounds a scrap sleazy and sordid if I'k honest! Information technology's like a loftier-end yuppie version of an 18-30'south holiday (U.k. readers volition know what I mean) but I estimate if you lot're going to learn to live a little and let your inhibitions become, and so this place would work.

I didn't think I could possibly honey Rob or James anymore than I already did... merely I did. Their relationship is so solid because of what they have sacrificed for each other in their ain way. It shows their sweet nature and how much they truly care for the people they requite their middle to. It'south really quite endearing... specially when you meet James' pure dedication to his hereafter married woman past completely removing himself from the antics the resort offers... particularly from the unwanted advances of Daphne's friend Kristen (I actually don't like her!)

Rob and Daphne's story is so intense... they are both trying to fall in love without realising that's what they actually want. Neither thinks that honey is what they want... simply they shortly acquire that each other's dearest is exactly what they demand.

If I had ane criticism... it felt a fleck rushed at the stop. I wanted more than. I don't want the story to end... even though I know how their story ends... I desire to know how they got to where they end up in "This Is Love".

What else did I learn? I don't like Matt very much at the moment. I don't know why... I simply notice him abrasive and a bit of a jerk. Always getting in the way of people's happiness. Maybe I need to read his story to sympathize him more.

I whole heartedly recommend all of Ivy's books... merely make certain you get-go at the beginning so that you understand the whole story... because the journey her characters accept is so incredible.

"We're non swimming laps. Nosotros're lounging around, tanning, and flirting with strangers," Kristen said with a smile.
"Possibly you are. I brought SPF 50 sunscreen so I don't terminate up with skin cancer."

Rob...oh, Rob. What a mouth he has on him! I'm pretty certain I'1000 notwithstanding blushing. Fifty-fifty though I did cringe at some of the things he said, he was quite sweet sometimes.

And there was no insta-love! There was definitely a whole lot of insta-lust, but who doesn't feel that? I get insta-lust for boys I've never met before on public transport. It happens to the all-time of us.

I recollect this is 1 of those books for me where, even though I know at that place'southward nothing spectacular or different about it, I still love it. It had me smiling like a consummate goober.

"It's the start of our dearest story, Daphne. Let's make it memorable." He climbed out of the water and put his hand out for me. "Requite me your hand. I promise I won't let go."
I put my manus in his. I was finally ready to alive again.

Daphne is a wet blanket. Yep we feel bad for her because of the loss of her brother simply she was a wet noodle before that. And and then the Insta-love just doesn't even make sense. She kept telling Rob she wouldn't have sex with him and then magically hours later she just can't help but give in.

And and then you lot add in absolutely craptastic friends similar Kristen and Matt. They destroyed so much of the fun that was supposed to happen. Kristen is embarrassing in the style she constantly threw herself at James. She had no regard for his feelings, respect for his date to Penny or whatsoever thoughts of her own young man. Matt was even worse. Drugging his addict friend was gross and kind of dismissed past anybody. Why Rob felt similar he needed to protect Matt didn't make sense, peculiarly because Rob and James are super tight.

There were definitely a few laugh out loud moments but information technology didn't make upward for the mess of the rest of the book.

Third time's a charm 💘

A great spin-off of the Hunted Series and then wonderful to get Rob's story after meeting him previously in that series. Mayhap he'due south lonely (you lot'll know why if y'all're into the Empire High series), and mayhap nosotros'll meet him in a unlike light if and when he gets his story. (Hoping).

The ending is good, with no bewilderment, and this probably can be read as a standalone just and so much better when read in conjunction with all the related books in the Hunted, Low-cal to My Darkness, and Empire Loftier series.

Of course now I can't look to read Tyler's story in Missing Pieces.

I am giving 3rd Chances 3 stars considering it is inconsistent with the timeline of events in the Hunted series. Thereafter, she and her friends go along their trip where they meet James & the guys who are there for his bachelor party. James and Penny's wedding ceremony takes place on June 30th every bit we notice out in Eruption. This means both groups would have been at the Bluish Parrot Resort sometime in June which is non the eye of the summertime and so school would have still been in session.

This might be a minor matter for a lot of people. Even so, I like and look for consistency when reading series and spin-off stories so I couldn't help thinking about information technology while reading the rest of the book.

I've previously read one novel by @ivysmoakauthor, a fascinating thriller titled The Truth In My Lies. Subsequently experiencing Ivy's talent, I chose this novel as my second read by her. The storyline flows smoothly, with a prissy pace and few wasted words. Ivy Smoak is ane author who has seamlessly crossed genres, and succeeded in both.
